Fall Has Arrived

Installation for CQAFA at Cincinnati Nature Center 2024 Shari Replogle

As Fall weather arrives it feels like it is telling us to slow down, observe, and enjoy. The first signs of Fall are exciting with cooler temps and all of the second flushes of roses and other flowers that love when the 90 degree temperatures are gone. I upped my pumpkin game this season to a harvest of a full dozen pumpkins compared to 5 last season. I don’t know if I will ever have the room to grow as many as I need. I tuck them here and there and watch as the vines attempt to take over the world . This year they did wonderfully spilling over the cold frames in front of the greenhouse until they sauntered over to the back gate of the cutting garden and then there were issues as I had to get the wheelbarrow through.

Fall is traditionally about preserving the harvest, and we have dried an absolutely huge amount of beautiful flowers this year for our “Fall In Bloom” tea and wreath making workshop. We are so excited and can’t wait for you to join us. This year it will be at the beautiful Anderson Heritage Center. We are busy creating all of the tablescapes for the tea and assembling all of the gorgeous flowers you will use for your wreaths! This is sure to be a fun evening to celebrate Fall and create a gorgeous wreath for your home.

We have just one market left for the season this Saturday and the heirloom mums are budded up! I am so hoping they open this week . These are one of those flowers we wait and wait for all season long and very hit and miss if they bloom for the market. Heirloom mums like tulips have early, mid, and late bloom varieties and I think I was smitten a few years ago with the mid blooming varieties. This year I have already ordered some early varieties for 2027 so we can experience the whole show. The ones out there now are about 4-5 feet tall and even their foliage is pretty! Also, this will be your last chance to grab some pumpkin bouquets! Stop by Saturday and chat all things flowers and garden!
